Rhys Tivey is a trumpeter, composer, vocalist, and music educator. With the release of No Voice No More, he debuts his quartet with the renowned pianist Jean-Michel Pilc, drummer Ross Pederson, and bassist Sam Minaie.

In the two years he led the resident jazz quartet of Gallagher’s in Manhattan, he was joined by legendary jazz vocalist Jon Hendricks, along with top players such as Gilad Heckselman, Francois Moutin, Andy Milne, Lou Soloff, Tony Moreno and Dave Pietro. As a versatile performer, he has performed with singer-pianist-composer extraordinaire, Phoebe Legere, as well as acted in her 2013 play, Shakespeare and Elizabeth: The Reality Show, at the Theater For The New City. A member of the prestigious Empire State Youth Orchestra as a teen, Tivey toured Austria, Germany and the Czech Republic and performed at such top venues as Carnegie Hall and Tanglewood. He also spent time in Istanbul improvising musical accompaniments to yoga classes at the city’s major studio, Cihangir Yoga. While enrolled at New York University for jazz, he performed in Florence Italy, Buenos Aires Argentina, Oaxaca Mexico, and studied with trumpet masters Ralph Alessi and Brian Lynch. 

Tivey works as the NYC Regional Manager for MIMA Music, an international nonprofit organization whose mission is to enrich communities through music improvisation, and works as a MIMA Teaching Artist at schools in NYC.
